Power League Round 1 – Tuesday 11th November

The Volleyball Power League started its 4th season this week expanding in numbers again.
This year sees 12 teams competing from four schools (St Thomas More, Higham Lane, Twycross House & Etone College). We have 7 boy’s teams, 5 girl’s teams competing in the first round of competition, with other teams set to join from round 2. They will play in a 4 vs 4 format for six weeks climaxing in the Warwickshire Cup competition on Monday 15th December at Alderman Smith Sports College. After Christmas the Power League converts to 6 vs 6 format over five weeks of competition.

The League this year has secured sponsorship from the North Warwickshire Sports Partnership who has donated t-shirts for the Most Valuable Players. Also Nuneaton Volleyball Club has donated medals, t-shirts and free sessions to its Junior Training Sessions. Also Nuneaton Volleyball Club have entered two teams into the U16’s Boys and Girls National Cups with training taking place to select a team for each of these disciplines.

The games were very competitive and close for the first meeting of the season. The quality of the volleyball was the highest we have seen in four years of competition with good three touch volleyball in all teams this is a testament to the quality of volleyball in Nuneaton and the work of the teachers involved.

In the boys competition the scores were tied at the top on 16 points each between Wii not Fit (Etone College and KCJS Warriors of St Thomas More School but Wii not Fit took the 7 points with a superior points difference. Wazims Wonders were third with 12 points and In 2nd from last place, the God Squad, In last place and Jimmy Riddle all had 10 points and were separated by points difference.
In the girls league the Fantastic 4 (St Thomas More) of Alex Bliss, Harriet Slinn and Karolina Gurzynska were worthy winners taking all 12 points. With the other three teams all on 8 points and split by point’s difference were the Beans, The Novices and Etone Ladies. Uncle Dezza’s were 5th but played some good volleyball but must work on being more consistent.

There were 17 players out of 46 achieved a score on the Most Valuable Player League Table with two students achieving 3 votes each these were Alex Bliss playing for Fantastic 4 from St Thomas More School and Declan O’Mara of Wii Not Fit from Etone College. Well done to all players achieving 1 vote.

The next round of the league is on Tuesday 18th November at Higham Lane School
